An original equipment manufacturer (OEM) found that its four-step supply chain in three states was far too cumbersome to manage. Sub-suppliers compensated for a lack of supply information by relying on excess inventory to keep up with demand. As a result, part shortages slowed the supply chain and valuable assets were locked up in inventory.

World Class Solution

To overcome the complex supply chain, World Class Industries implemented a centralized website providing visibility to all members of the OEM’s entire supply chain. The site listed all kitting requirements with up-to-date inventory levels.

WCI also attacked a key cost driver—excess inventory. We analyzed the supply chain and inventory requirements. By decreasing early stage inventory by 20% and increasing finished goods safety stock, we reduced overall inventory dollars and dramatically improved parts availability.
